Heeeey guyyys!
So it's the end of the 2018 Con season for me. I'm gonna be taking some time off so I can properly enjoy Halloween, My Birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.
I WILL be back in action early January for Sac-Anime but after that I'm not sure what I'm doing/where I'm going. I'm just doing my best to enjoy some down time for a few months.
But lemme tell ya the story of the last couple days! :)
I had two great cons in a row and a hell of a lot had to happen for me to get there.
So I had made pans with my Sacramento friend Danielle to meet me in Mountain View for Yume con and me by helper both there AND and Sac-con. Danielle's never seen my home town so I thought that would be a fun little diversion for us in between cons. Also, I HATE doing cons by myself, even small ones. not only is carrying everything myself a pain, it also kinda blows to be sitting there all on your lonesome during the course of the con itself. It's nice to have someone you can converse with, plus, I feel like convention attendees have a weird subconscious desire to avoid booths that only have one person at them. I get a lot more attention when I have someone sitting with me.
Unfortunate, due to some unforseen family issues, Danielle had to cancel her appearance at Yume con very last minute. Drat! she said she'd still be able to do Sac-Con, but didn't feel okay making her way down to MV that weekend cuz she wanted to stick close to home, just in case.
I scrambled looking for a replacement, which was difficult because it felt like everyone had stuff to do already.
I must have talked to like, 50 something people, people who i knew were into conventions, people who i knew were in the area, people who had been my table helper before, etc. But to no avail. The circle kept getting smaller and smaller and smaller. Until finally, I happened across my friend Aubrie. Aubrie and I met on OKCupic like... ten years ago. We definitely hit it off, but our lives were so busy at the time and taking us in such different directions that we grew apart not long after meeting. We stayed friends on the internet though, and thank god too because she was the first person to say "yes, definitely" when I asked if she wanted to come down and sit at a table with me for 8 hours :P
It was great catching up, she did some killer TransCat fanart for me (which you can see HERE). We also got to see some great dances and hear some great performances. Usually, when I table at cons, I'm not able to see a lot of the cool other shit that goes on at them, like the dance or karaoke showcases or competitions or w/e. Yume Con was small enough that all that cool shit happened in the same room as the Artist Alley! I even had a pretty good view from where I was sitting, so even better.
Aubrey even got to do a commission for "The Dickbutt Guys".
I can't remember if I've talked about them much before on this blog, but they're kinda staples of the California convention circuit. They're a group of dudes who walk around different Artist Alleys at different cons and get the artists to draw this character, Dickbutt.
Now I don't know WHERE Dickbutt came from, my instinct says he came from SomethingAwful or something like that, but wherever he's from, he's been adopted into the pantheon of Internet running jokes. He's a weird little dude with a dick for a head and a butt with a dick coming out of the butt somehow. Despite how disgusting he sounds, he is actually very cute, and the Dickbutt guys collect a wide vareity of DickButt fanart from the farthest reaches of California conventions. Even Aubrie drew one, which was cool as hell. Aubrie said she hadn't really done much drawing in awhile so I'm proud to know that just by being a this con, she was inspired to draw not one but TWO pieces of fan art. I am an inspiring individual to know, indeed!
That con wrapped up and I wound up taking Aubrie back home. My plan was to drop her off and continue straight on to Sacramento where my next con was the following morning, but complications arose when my hosts told me they were both running pretty high fevers. I made the decision to head back to MV and crash at my friend's place, that I was actually going to start house sitting for as soon as I got back. Seemed convenient :P
So we had an impromptu sleepover instead, and both of us left pretty early in the morning.
Sac-Con was also chill as hell and went off without a hitch. Tara from Prism comics/Stacked Deck happened to be there, which was VERY nice. I got the two Calogrenant books that I didn't have yet plus a snagged a Black Window action figure from Infinity War. That completes my Infinity War collection FOR NOW! Sometime next year they're releasing the last two Thanos henchmen to complete the set.
So yeah, that's it, that's the long n' short of my marvelous weekend adventures! Thanks guys so much for showing up for me over the course of this year, i'm gonna go into a brief hibernation, but I'll be back in JANUARY!
